Grammar and vocabulary classes

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome back to my blog!馃檶馃憖

This week we formed groups of 8 people and we had to teach vocabulary and grammar. This was literally my first time planning and teaching a class, and now I understand more than anything else that taking on the role of teacher is not easy馃槄. Teacher Orlando told us that we had to wear the same color as our group to make it look like a uniform and to my impression, or rather everyone's impression, all the groups wore black, and it was very funny haha馃槀.

Here is a video of the whole class wearing a black shirt⚫.

Group 1 - Hospital Vocabulary馃彞

The first group started, and their class was based on hospital vocabulary, I didn't know many of the words they taught which I found very interesting, because no matter how advanced you are in the language you always end up learning something new every day.

Talking about the activities they did, first, they provided us with definitions and handed out worksheets with exercises. They presented us with an alphabet soup, also a worksheet in which we needed to match the definition with the term. Following that, we play a Kahoot game.

Group 2 - Grammar: Third conditional馃摑

This group taught the third conditional, which is a grammatical structure that utilizes the “if” clause to describe hypothetical situations from the past or to discuss events that never took place.

They explained the structure to the class, and then they led us in constructing sentences on the whiteboard. Additionally, they gave us a paragraph in which we need to analyze and recognize the third conditional. This was a topic that I learned a lot of time ago, however this time I was impressed because I didn't remember its structure and its name itself.

Group 3 - Cooking Vocabulary馃嵆

This was my group’s time to shine haha✨馃槃. We decided to teach advanced culinary vocabulary because despite having a strong grasp of English, we often lack knowledge beyond the basics. Personally, this topic made me feel intrigued since we learned and taught processes, techniques, and ingredients, that I had no idea of them before馃槄.

The main objective of our entire class was to introduce new culinary vocabulary, also most of the words we taught had French origins, so we encouraged everyone to tap into their inner chef. We began by asking about their favorite dishes and whether they had any notion of how to prepare them. An activity we did was giving them worksheets in which they needed to match the word with the definition and the images with the numbers of the words that were taught during the class.

Group 4 - Grammar: Second conditional馃搼

This group taught the second conditional. Throughout the lesson, we grasped that the Second Conditional is employed to discuss situations that are impossible or future events that are unlikely to happen.

For this group's activity, we were divided into teams, and they provided us with an envelope with words that we needed to convert those words into a sentence using the second conditional.

Also, they told us that they had a roulette wheel with all of our names for choosing the next victims for the activity. One of my friends said, “It would be bad luck if one of our names came up”. To our surprise the name of my friend who said that came up in the roulette wheel, so she ended up participating haha馃ぁ馃槀. The last activity was really interesting because it was to use the phase that the last person said and use another one to have coherence always using the structure of the second conditional.

And here is a video of my friend waiting her time to participate haha馃槀.

I admire all the teachers in the world for their dedication, passion, and commitment to teaching in order to give the knowledge they possess to their students. This is not an easy role and I have always said that to be a teacher you are born with that gift, however, thanks to teacher Orlando we have been building it during this subject馃憦馃摎✨.

This is the entry for this week, and I hope you like it. See you soon in next week’s entry, stay safe, and bye, bye!馃構✌
