(PDP) - Pre, During & Post

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome back to my blog!馃檶馃憖

This week we learned a new method for teaching in class that is used only for receptive skills, and it is called (PDP).

(PDP) in teaching classes is important because it promotes effective lesson planning, active student engagement, ongoing assessment, adaptability, and alignment with educational goals. This approach ultimately enhances the learning experience and improves student outcomes.✍

This approach consists of the following stages:

  • The first "P" in PDP stands for "PRE," and is about what happens before students read or listen. Teachers do things like checking what students already know, teaching them new words, and making the topic interesting. These activities prepare students to understand what they'll read or listen to later.
  • The "D" in PDP stands for "DURING," which is when students read or listen to something in class. Teachers use various activities to aid student understanding. These activities come before the actual reading or listening and aim to enhance students' skills and text comprehension. These activities are organized in a step-by-step manner, starting with easy tasks and progressing to harder ones. By the end of this stage, students should fully understand the text, and the final activity should demonstrate their comprehension.
  • The second "P" in PDP stands for "POST," which comes after students have finished reading or listening to something and have understood it. The POST stage is like an extra bonus step, not always necessary. In the POST stage, the aim is to use and expand on what was learned from the text to develop other skills. These activities help students better understand what they've learned and connect it to their own lives. It's a chance for students to get creative and apply what they know.

In our session, teacher Orlando decided to create an example of a class using the stages above mentioned with us. He created a new lesson from scratch and started asking us for ideas about the reading that he presented to us which was about Holistic medicine馃尶. He made the class feel really interactive and he also told us about some ideas for activities that we could do in a class using the topic of Holistic medicine and it was pretty cool馃槑.

This is the entry for this week, and I hope you like it. See you soon in next week’s entry, stay safe, and bye, bye!馃構✌
