Flexibility in Lesson Planning

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome back to my blog!馃檶馃憖

In our class session teacher Orlando asked us if we could help some students from our major who are working on their thesis馃摂. We helped them with a small survey馃摑 about sight translation, also with a quick test of the same type of interpretation/translation馃棧. Then, we had a visit from a very well experimented person in translation and interpretation… Regina that is currently studying our major too haha馃槄. She gave us professional tips on how much to charge, what to charge if we are going to do an interpretation or translation. Also, she mentioned that they are working on creating an association of translators & interpreters here in El Salvador, which impressed me a lot since that is something that many of us want for this major馃檶. We are almost finishing our bachelor's degree, and I think it was really helpful because many of us want to work in an agency or as freelancers, so now we have a better perspective of what a translator/interpreter's real job is like馃憤.

There was not that much time for the class because of the activities mentioned above, however, that didn't stop teacher Orlando from giving us the week's topic馃拞. We talked about how flexible and magical our classes can be. For example, the presentation of Regina, I called it a magical moment because we learned a lot from her, and things like this that are not planned so far in advance can be really appreciated by the students. Another important thing that we learned was objectives. According to teachers’ Orlando document, the elements to consider are “time, particular subject, anticipated outcome, and how to identify it”. We can use the phrase "at the end of the day, SWABT (Students will be able to)…" and complementing the phrase with the topic you will teach that day. Moreover, we learned that keeping things simple in the classroom can lead to strong effectiveness. We were reminded that our teaching should align smoothly with our predetermined goals馃槍.

As you see, this entry is pretty short, however we learned a lot in a short period of time馃槵. Another point to highlight is that when students don't go to a class or don't show up, teachers call it "Mortality" because the classroom is with few students or with none, basically dead hahaha馃槀. It was really fun because I didn't know that term, but now this have been added to my vocabulary haha馃槀. As I always say, you learn something new every day, and this day was one of them haha馃槈.

This is the entry for this week, and I hope you like it. See you soon in next week’s entry, stay safe, and bye, bye!馃構✌
