Activities in the classroom

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome back to my blog!🙌👀

This week we had face-to-face classes and had a brief review on the topics covered last week. Teacher Orlando provided us with examples of activities for measuring time⏲ and grouping students👫 in the classroom.

The class was focused on enhancing classroom dynamics to keep students engaged and prevent them from falling asleep. We know that sometimes theory classes can be boring😴 so as teachers we have to be very dynamic and do physical activities so that they are not all the time sitting. Well, we can use different objects to make sounds for classroom dynamics, for example recycled materials like putting rocks in a can🥫 and with that being able to make sounds. 

One activity that we can do to group students is that bringing color blocks “Legos” and give one to each student at the beginning of the class so that when it is time to do a group activity, those with the same color Lego will have to work together. A measuring time activity can not only be to put 3-5 minutes on your phone📱, but as teachers we have to be creative. So, an object that you could use to time the activity⌛ could be a kitchen chicken timer to make the activity more exciting so the students will be more aware of when the time is up or not. 

An activity that Teacher Orlando mentioned and caught my attention was to make two posters, one referring to the "hell👹" for which all the students' names would begin on this poster and another referring to the "heaven👼". So, when the student participates more than twice, their name would go to the good side and those who manage to pass to the heaven side can be rewarded with candy purchased at dollar city (said by Lic. Orlando haha😂), points for an upcoming activity, or an extra 5-10 minutes of break time. And in that way we promote participation and recognize the hard work of our students.

We also learned the warm-up activity, which it can be used to introduce a new topic, refresh previous knowledge, or just a fun activity to attract students to participate. Moreover, these activities provide an excellent opportunity to promote a sense of community and teach teamwork to students. To be effective, a warm-up activity should be concise, dynamic, and last around 5-7 minutes, allowing students to actively engage with the subject.

Lic. Orlando told us many times that he was like a bad example for us hahaha😂 because he doesn’t do many things that a teacher must do when teaching. However, I think he is a really good teacher👌 because I have learned a lot from him, and he gave us a lot of examples of activities that can be done in a class, also as teachers we have to recycle and have random things that can help us in our activities, and we can even bring teddies🧸 and say they are the classroom pets and give them a name among all the students.
